Withdraw From The Commonwealth Games Bidding Process sign now

To His Worship Mayor Peter Kelly and the HRM Council:
Whereas a properly run feasibility study showed that Halifax did not a large enough population base to support an aquarium and no properly conducted feasibility study seems to have been done to determine Halifaxs ability to host a mega project like the Commonwealth Games.
Whereas the games have proven that they do not have the ability to attract good TV revenue, corporate sponsorship or tourist trade
Whereas any debt left behind falls to the hosting city and Halifax has a population of only 350,000 while the last two cities Manchester and Melbourne have 11.5 million within a 50-mile radius and 3.5 million respectively
The province of Nova Scotia is already over $12,000,000,000 in debt
Whereas, by his own admission on the local radio show Hot Line His Worship Mayor Peter Kelly admitted that he has no idea of exactly what share of the costs will be paid by the province and the federal government
Whereas in the last two games Manchester in 2002 spent over four times the original bid and Melbourne in 2006 spent over 5 times its original bid according to the last officially admitted total.

In light of our increasing $$ difficulty in meeting basic needs, grandiose games are a luxury we cannot afford. As an already over-burdened taxpayer I say a definite and final NO to them Postal Code B4A 3S3

Spend the money on projects to benefit youth and the general population. I see no need to reward elite athletes. Let's give kids with nothing to do some recreational facilities. Postal Code B0P 1E0

I think the Games are a waste of money. As well, they will lead to major traffic and parking problems. A few people will get rich, but the citizens of NS will be paying for years to come. It would be better to spend the money on things like our hospitals,

I don't think that as an average Haligonian I will derive any benefit from Halifax hosting these games. The only thing I will get, is to pay the bill after the athletes go home. No thanks. Postal Code b3p 1n5
