Stop Extradition of Joseph Byrne to Ireland sign now

On November 29, 2007 United States Magistrate Judge George A. Yanthis granted Irelands request for the extradition of my husband Joseph Byrne. Joe will be extradited back to Ireland on or before January 29, 2008 unless the United States Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, puts a stop to this wrongful extradition.

This petition will be presented to Madame Rice, so please pass it on to all your friends, neighbors and family that are interested in seeking justice for my husband.

Joseph Byrne is a legal resident of the United States and can now apply for United States citizenship. If extradited, he may never be allowed back into the United States. Joe and I, Eileen Grady Byrne, met ten years ago. In 2002 our daughter Mairead was born and in 2004 Joe and I married. We live in the highly Irish populated area of Pearl River, NY, where we own our home and Joe owns a small home improvement business. He is a tax-payer, and long-time member of Division 3, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Pearl River, NY. He has always lived openly and honestly and never lived as a fugitive. Upon application to the U.S. Immigration Department for change of resident status, Joe admitted having been brought in for questioning back in 1998 in Ireland for a robbery and burglary. He was legally allowed to leave the country when he immigrated to America. We also received clearance from Ireland for his green card application and informed Ireland of his whereabouts in 2002 when he renewed his Irish passport. Never has Joseph Byrne used an alias, changed his appearance or lived as a fugitive in this country. For over ten years Ireland never sought his presence back in Ireland nor did they ever request his presence by simply asking for his whereabouts from his parents who reside in Ireland. Instead, Ireland maliciously sent twenty U.S. Federal Marshals to our home in Pearl River at 5:00 a.m. on July 28, 2006 to arrest my husband. Our daughter was only three years old and highly traumatized by this severe action by Ireland. Joe spent six weeks in prison in Westchester County, New York before being released under special circumstances with bail provided by the equity in our home. He is currently still under bail and Magistrate Judge Yanthis has gratefully declined revoking his bail pending final disposition of this matter by the Secretary of State.

Please sign this petition and help join our forces in keeping Joseph Byrne in the United States. If extradited, Ireland will have succeeded in breaking up a family and ripping both a loving husband and father from his wife and daughter. Let us join forces and let Ireland know this will not be tolerated. Also, please write to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and let her know your opinion of this case.

Joe is proud to be Irish. However, his home is in America and he wants to continue living here with both his American citizen wife and daughter. If extradited, not only will it be a financial and emotional hardship for his family, but Joe will not receive a fair trial in Ireland due to the excessive length of time that has passed before Ireland issued his arrest warrant. Let us put a stop to Irelands extradition of Joseph Byrne. Your signature will carry a lot of weight in Washington and let the U.S. government know that we, the Irish and Irish Americans, are the backbone of America. We are strong, we are visible and this one voice will prove we will not tolerate such a blatant miscarriage of justice to continue.
