Statement of Support for Birju Nayak: Peoples candidate from South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency sign now

Dear Friends,

We are happy to announce that Shri Birju Nayak has been boldly chosen as Peoples Candidate from South Delhi constituency in the coming elections to the 15th Lok Sabha. Shri Birju, a graduate of Delhi University, is a well known social and political activist. He has actively participated in innumerable struggles of working people, youth and other oppressed sections of society, not only in and around Delhi but wherever duty has called him, be it Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh or Punjab. He has toiled hard to build Lok Raj Samitis in many areas so that people are able to fight for their rights, resist the attacks on their homes and livelihood and empower themselves to exercise their will.

He has stood shoulder to shoulder in numerous solidarity actions in support of people of Lebanon and Gaza against Israeli aggression, with the people of Iraq and Afghanistan against US aggression, with the people of Iran and Cuba against US bullying, with the people of Nepal in their struggle against the monarchy. He has campaigned for friendship between people of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and against all war mongering and hate propaganda that has held back progress of people of this subcontinent.
He has actively supported the struggle of residents of Jamia against police harassment in the name of War on Terror. He has been a consistent fighter in defence of human rights, actively demanding repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur and other northeastern states and Kashmir. He has been in the lead, in the movement demanding punishment of those guilty of the massacre in Delhi of 1984, the massacre in Gujarat in 2002 and all other such genocidal acts.

Nearer home he has led the struggle of Okhla Slum Residents for better amenities. His organizing abilities were amply demonstrated in the successful fight put up by residents of Transit Camp, Kalkaji, preventing the arbitrary demolition of their homes. With a broad vision he has led the movement to build a united front of residents of DDA colonies, RWAs, small shop keepers and slum dwellers, forcing the government to withdraw the dangling sword of demolitions and sealing.

Popularly known as "Birju Bhaiya" among the youth, Shri Birju has led and continues to lead multifarious activities in Delhi, Rajasthan, Kanpur and other places, organising the youth to be the leaders of society.

Through his organizing activities in Lok Raj Samitis; through many plays addressing crucial social problems, that he has written and directed for street theatre groups; through tireless work in the trade unions and unorganized workers movement; through his prolific journalistic work in print and the Internet; Shri Birju Nayak has strived to raise peoples consciousness about the absolute necessity of direct democracy to make people sovereign.

Birju is a meticulously honest politician and a true grass root level worker.

In this electoral scene filled by self seeking politicians, criminally using money and muscle power to promise the moon during elections and then carry out anti-people programs serving the biggest corporate houses once elected, Birju Nayak stands as a beacon of all that is chaste, selfless, young, creative and fearless.
We, the undersigned personalities from diverse professions and political trends, therefore appeal to you to support Birju Nayak in the elections on May 7 by voting for him, participating in his election campaign and contributing generously in every way.
