We, Star Trek fans, are not happy with what is intent to be Star Trek XI (Star Trek: The Beginning).

Acording to informations (bellow), this will be a prequel to Captains Kirk era but after the events in ENTERPRISE and with a entire new crew.

We do not want a new series or film base on new characters, we want new GOOD stories with the characters from Star Trek universe that already exists and the full support from Paramount Pictures for the franchise, with people that know Star Treks background and willing to give your best.

"Gene [Roddenberry] always used to say it's a people show."
Marina Sirtis - The Next Generation

"I think we need Gene's vision now more than ever... What was inherent in the Trek philosophy was that there was respect for diversity. World leaders should take a page from Gene's book."
LeVar Burton - The Next Generation

Jendresen tells writer David Bassom that the working title for the project is currently STAR TREK: THE BEGINNING. You'll recall that producer Rick Berman, who is working with producers Kerry McCluggage and Jordan Kerner on the project, has said that the film would not utilize any existing STAR TREK characters and would be a new prequel to THE ORIGINAL SERIES. Jendresen gives more details.

"This would take place just a couple of years after the end of the events in ENTERPRISE but well before the original series, and it would look at the inciting incident that started everything," he states. "The story is big and epic, and it isn't as antiseptic as the television stories had to be."

He says THE BEGINNING would also not be centered around the traditional STAR TREK model of a captain, crew, and starship.

"We're looking at a very small group of men and women, particularly focusing on one character," explains Jendresen. "There are a couple of ships, including a principal ship, but this is not a traditional captain and crew of a starship story in the least."

>> The Next Generation stars Marina Sirtis [Deanna Troi] and LeVar Burton [Geordi La Forge] excerpts from TrekToday (September 27, 2005)

While Sirtis said that she would still be on TNG if she could, "though not LeVar because he's a big-time director", she made gagging gestures at a question about whether it was true the next Star Trek feature film would be a prequel. She encouraged the audience to write to tell Paramount what they would like to see, rather than waiting for them to make a movie for "this demographic thing that hollywood is all about, these kids...Wesley Crusher syndrome multiplied by eight!"

>> The Next Generation star Jonathan Frakes [William T. Riker] excerpts from TrekWeb (October 4, 2005)

Frakes expressed his opinion that one of the reasons for the failure of NEMESIS was that "the show didn't focus strongly enough on the TNG characters." This remark was followed by a powerful applause. Frakes later added that "it will take some time, and the STAR TREK movies will come back... They just like to make money... We will rise from the ashes, and I want to be a part of it."

>> Enterprise star Scott Bakula [Jonathan Archer] excerpts from TrekWeb (October 6, 2005)

SV: How do you explain ENTERPRISE's cancellation?
Bakula: It definitely wasn't because there are not enough fans anymore, but because of the TV politics. If we were not forced to work with UPN, we would actually talk about Season Five. But we were at the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong politics. There are so many people who supported us, but those people were not at Paramount anymore. In the short time we were there, the studio changed totally. We simply started at the wrong time. (laughs) On the other hand... maybe we hadn't been there, if we hadn't started four years ago.

>> The Next Generation star Patrick Stewart [Jean-Luc Picard] excerpts from TrekWeb (October 7, 2005)

About the director Stuart Baird, he said "The fact that he was from totally outside the franchise did mean that, unlike any of the others directors we've had on the films, Stuart was not familiar with some of the substance, some of the details of STAR TREK. So, from time to time he would ask for something or want something that couldn't be given because of the personality a character had or for technological reasons. But those instances were few and far between."
"That's entirely true" he said "I've never made a secret about it. Yes, indeed. I think [the movie coming together] was partly a result of the cast's dedication to the script as it was developing and to Rick [Berman] and John Logan and Stuart Baird and [Paramount's] willingness to be flexible in negociating this. But, at times, it was extremely unplesant. And that was disappointing after 15 or 16 years."
