Save Our Loddon Valley Environment sign now

Basingstoke & Deane Planning Department are asking the Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council to endorse a plan that could result in up to 10,000 homes being built in the Loddon Valley adjacent to Old Basing, Chineham and Newnham.

We, the undersigned, are against this unsustainable proposal. We put the Council on notice that we will hold them responsible for the consequences of adopting this proposal and that the plan as it stands:
- ignores advice from The Environment Agency which specifically advises against building homes here,
- has no adequate account of the very significant dangers of flooding caused by development of this kind,
- ignores the threat to the unique natural benefits of the valley and its world famous chalk stream,
- has no credible plan to finance or manage the impact on a local infrastructure (roads, sewers, water, power) that does not cope with existing demand, let alone a significant increase in population.

This is an abomination so far as the Loddon Valley is concerned. We don't even have adequate schools and healthcare provision as it is. Address and Post Code 23 Brickfields Close, Lychpit, RG24 8UX

The Loddon valley is a beautiful eco system and a valuable breathing space on the edge of Basingstoke. There are already lots of new houses in Basingstoke and plenty of brownfield sites so why destroy something so beautiful, fragile and enjoyed by many re

We do not have the resources to support this unnecessary housing stock. There are plenty of empty office buildings that have been unused for many years which can be converted for living accommodation. To carry on building around our countryside will make
