Red Sox to Invite Jimmy Buffett to Opening Day 2005 sign now

We the undersigned members, friends and sympathizers of the Parrothead and Red Sox nations do hereby request and petition the owners and management of the Boston Red Sox to invite Mr. Jimmy Buffett to join them as a guest of honor, and participant, at the opening day ceremonies for the 2005 baseball season.

It is well known to his fans that Mr. Buffett, in spite of his Southern roots, has an affinity for Boston and Massachusetts. He often finishes his summer leg of his tours with his Boston show and vacations on the Cape and the Islands to recharge his batteries. He is a baseball fan and even played a bit role as a fan in the movie "Cobb."

As you know, "the curse of the Bambino," was successfully broken in the glorious end of the 2004 baseball season when the Red Sox won the World Series in a four game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals - thus being the first Red Sox team to win the World Series in 86 years. Over the decades, many celebrities have tried to lift the curse including: Bruce Springsteen, Father Guido Sarducci and even the official witch of Salem, Laurie Cabot, among many others. On September 10, 2004, over 30,000 people witnessed Mr. Buffett call for the Jolly Mon to perform an exorcism in front of the Green Monster. He also led the crowd in a rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" as well as a chorus of "Sweet Caroline" to seal the magic of the ritual.

That evening, the Red Sox won their game against the Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees lost their game to the Baltimore Orioles, both by wide margins, to reaffirm the feeling that the night was made of magic.

While all of us know and understand that no amount of wishing can replace the truly dedicated talent and hard work of the 2004 Red Sox team, we also know how much psychology plays into any competition - particularly baseball. Leaving Fenway Park on September 10th, there was a special feeling in the air that didn't need a "Believe" t-shirt or a rally cap. We "knew" that this was going to be the year. If even a tiny bit of the magic that we felt at Fenway on Sept. 10 and 12 lingered in the air or on the field, we'd like to think that it helped our beloved Red Sox make history.

In the end, it only seems to be right and just to invite Mr. Buffett as a guest of honor for the reasons as outlined above which lead us to proudly proclaim: Go Sox and phins up!
