Ohio Geocachers Stand Up For Your Right To Cache In State Forests sign now

ODNR has recently banned geocaching activities in all Ohio State Forests. The head of the Division of Forestry, Nate Kirk, verified this information today over the telephone. No public statement has been made and the date of this decision was not revealed. From this point forward all geocachers will be ticketed. The only reasoning they gave was that one person buried a cache in Zaleski S.F. and they caught a few people caching at night, so they banned it. We were invited to voice our opinions at their Open House on June 2, 2010 in Athens, Ohio. We are told that this is the only forum in which they will hear public opinion. That leaves us with only 2 weeks to pull together the Ohio geocaching community and present a strong defense of the game we all love.

I enjoy spending money in your state to Geocache, I'm sorry that some cachers want to mess it up for the rest of us. Geocaching Name Moontwig

Require a permit and have a ranger go out to look at cache sites when the cache is being places simple as that. Geocaching brings us to state forest's and park's without them, we wouldn't have visited as many. Geocaching Name Blb9556

This is a terrible idea to punish all for the actions of a few. By eliminating geocaching from the State Parks, the interaction of many children and their developed respect for the nature will narrowed. Geocaching Name Bunky1

I would hope that some kind of compromise between the ODNR and geocaching can be worked out with this issue. We as a family have enjoyed many of the state parks and other state recreation areas in Ohio and hope that geocaching will remain a part of this u

Cachers are nice people who love to spend time w/their families and friends enjoying nature. Every single cacher I've EVER met has been resposible and curtious to take care of the surroundings of a cache.Ever Hear of Cache in Trash Out? WE ARE THE ONES cl

I apologize for the false impression you apparently got from a few miscreant geocachers, but please don't judge all of us based on the actions of a few. Geocaching Name ghs

My tax money supports the state forests, and I fail to see any difference between hiking in them and Geocaching in them. Geocaching Name Ed_S

Should be more of a privilege that the state would allow us to geocache in Ohio State Forests. It's because of a select few who have ruined this for the rest of us by not understanding and/or following the rules and regulations. Geocaching Name 5BizzyBs

I think the majority of geocachers appreciate and want to protect our parks and forest areas. That is why there were 30-40 geocachers like myself serving at an event this spring at Caesar's Creek State Park to help clean up the park! There should be some

My family and I have been Geocaching together for several years. I cannot see how Geocaching has any negative affect on the state forests. It is a good clean sport that has taken off in Ohio and all over the rest of the country. Our family practices the sp

It seems to be discriminating geocachers for the actions of a few. If a hunter violates rules would hunting in forests be discontinued. I highly doubt it. Why single out geocachers who are great supporters of Ohio forests and parks? Geocaching Name kittyw
