Manila Mercury Declaration/ Declaraciуn de Manila sobre mercurio sign now

ENGLISH (versiуn en Espaсol abajo/ version franзaise ci-dessous)

We, miners, as the most exposed to mercury releases, recognize that mercury is a dangerous substance. Mercury releases need to be reduced, as well as its health and environmental impact minimized.

However, its use is important for gold recovery process.

We consider that our mining activity generates high employment, livelihood opportunities and that extraction of minerals is contributing to local, regional and national economic development.

We embrace the commitment to:
-> minimize and where feasible, eliminate the mercury releases of our activity;
-> adopt over time mercury-free techniques

This commitment can only be honored if:
-> our activity is legalized and recognized as part of the mining sector;
-> this formalization has to be facilitated and promoted by our governments;
-> capacity building and technology transfer programs are made accessible with our participation;
-> basic public services and infrastructures are put in place.

Our commitment needs governments reciprocity to become a reality.

-> Nuestra actividad sea legalizada y reconocida como parte del sector minero;
-> Esta formalizaciуn debe ser facilitada y promovida por nuestros gobiernos;
-> Tengamos acceso y participemos en programas de capacitaciуn y de transferencia de tecnologнas;
-> Se cree infraestructura y servicios pъblicos bбsicos.

-> minimiser et, lorsque cela et possible, йliminer les rejets mercuriels gйnйrйs par notre activitй ;

-> notre activitй soit lйgalisйe et reconnue comme faisant partie intйgrante du secteur minier ;
-> cette formalisation soit facilitйe et encouragйe par nos gouvernements ;
-> des programmes de professionnalisation ainsi que de transfert de technologie soient mis en place avec notre participation ;
