Let's Fix The NHL...And Fast! sign now

This is for all of the NHL Hockey fans out there who are sick of sitting around doing nothing while they would like their thoughts be heard about the NHL lockout. Whether you're a sports restaurant owner, sports merchandise shop owner, a complete fanatic, or even a casual fan, this lockout has affected you. The thing is, it has affected all Canadians, in one way or another.

I, personally, couldn't think of any other way aside from a petition to have our collective opinion heard. Keep in mind that I'm just a normal guy. I don't know the fine details of their bargaining and nor do I care. All I know is that I love the game of hockey and wanted my voice to be heard. Read the following and, if you agree, sign the petition.

The signatures collected here are a representation of the concern for the National Hockey League's well-being.

It seems ironic that the fate of our beloved game is in the hands of two guys who probably don't even like the game of hockey. It also seems odd that their efforts on the matter are kind of lackluster. I don't mean all the jargon, the terms, percentages or monetary figures. I just mean that, if you're going to try to resolve something, shouldn't you get together more than once every 2-3 months? I mean, especially since you're 3 months into a season that is all but wasted?

As a kid, what would they do in school when you would get into a fight? They would sit you with that person in the principal's office and let you work out your differences until you shake hands. Why can't we do that here? Forget about the two months' worth of downtime between get-togethers and just sit down, burn the midnight oil, keep the coffee coming, and figure something out that both parties can sign the dotted line on.

I've read that it seems like no one wants to admit defeat in this one. So, maybe you don't give them the option. Bring in a 3rd party arbitrator or something to take care of business and figure out where the middle ground is. To be honest, I don't care...just come up with something, and fast.

We're alredy almost halfway though the season, and that's just a shame. Everyone was inspired last year by Tampa Bay's win of the Stanley Cup, and we're already looking forward to next year when our teams can have another crack at it. So much for that...might have to wait another year...

The World Cup of Hockey was a nice "tide-me-over", but still just didn't feel right. It almost felt like a carrot dangling in front of the mule's face. I was in the United States on a business trip and had the pleasure of watching Canada beat Finland in the final game while there. It was then that I noticed something: Americans, for the most part, don't care about hockey. Why would they? They've got football, baseball, basketball...both pro and college for all of them. Which brings me to my next point...

This is what blows my mind about this whole situation...do both the players and owners thing that support for the NHL is SO strong that they can afford to do this? I honestly think they've seriously hurt the game already, let alone anymore downtime. Couple that with the bad press that the whole Bertuzzi incident gave our sport and the outlook gets even worse.

My final point is this...It's all about money, right guys? Be it in the owners' pockets or the players' pockets, it's all about the dough. The thing is...you guys are playing hockey for a living. Is there anything more to be said than that? Maybe there is...You're making 10, 20, 100 or more times what the hard-working Canadian makes per year for playing said hockey. Am I the only average joe that finds this VERY insulting? And then both parties (players and owners) still expect us to keep our support right up there through all of this and still shell out 100 bucks a seat??

Anyway, I think I've said enough, although I could write until my PC catches fire.

The bottom line...sign this petition if you share the same opinions as mine above. It's quite possible that, even if we get everyone in Canada to sign, it still won't matter...but it's better than doing nothing.
