Give coffee farmers a fair deal sign now

I work for Oxfam Fairtrade in Chester. One of the things we sell is coffee produced by farmers in South and Central America and Africa. As you may know, the farmers receive the profits made by sales of the coffee, as opposed to the money going to major corporations like your own and the farmers receiving a minimal amount for their hard work.
We are going through a so-called 'coffee crisis' at the moment; that is to say, while coffee prices have increased, paradoxically the payment received by the farmers for their labour has decreased. You say you are doing all you can, but are you?
Here are three demands I want to make on behalf of Oxfam:
- Firstly, that you support Oxfam's Coffee Rescue Plan - go to for more information - so that both your company and the farmers can benefit.
- Secondly, that you let an independent monitor make sure the coffee beans are of good quality before you buy them.
- Thirdly, that you buy Fair Trade coffee beans and pay the farmers a reasonable price. It goes without saying that they deserve to be paid better than they are. We in rich western countries take our lives for granted. Coming home from the office, the school, whatever, we may think "I had such a hard day!" but compared to the backbreaking labour of a coffee worker, it is nothing. Often those who work on coffee farms growing beans for companies like your own make barely enough money, despite the high prices of coffee, to feed their families.
It would be so much better for drinkers of Maxwell House, Kenco etc. to enjoy their coffee without the knowledge that it is stained with the blood of the workers, don't you think?
I thank you for your time.

I love coffee! And in my house, we drink quite a lot of it. But we only purchase coffee that has been fairly-traded and organically grown. You have the power to ensure that these principles are upheld in the business dealings of your company. And as a cit

Your company should assume more resposiblitiy for its farmers; give them above market prices for their coffee, inject money into the communities, and start education programs for the farmer's children. Do you drink coffee? Only Fair Trade.

I'm a expoter of coffee beans here and my sellers make much money. What you are not aware of is that hidden among the coffee plantations are also cocoa trees. Now that is where the real money is made. We need the coffee plantations to hide the cocoa trees

Please do make fair trade a commercial thing... it is pathetic the way that many people (like nescafe for example) can charge extortionate prices while paying their workers next to nothing. Please give JUSTICE! Do you drink coffee? Sometimes
