Elementary Education in India sign now

The petition is to define the term 'Elementary Education' in India particulary in reference to the Teacher Education programme. The teachers trained to teach the Secondary classes are being allowed to teach the students of Elementary classes thereby rendering the teaching in the hands of vitually untrained teachers. To prepare the teachers for Elementary classes separate teacher-education programmes exist but the students exclusively trained to teach Elementary classes are being denied the opportunities to teach and the teachers trained to teach the higher classes like IX, X, XI, and XII are being sent to teach smaller children. The whole education system is suffering because of this. We appeal to the President and the Prime Minister of India to please intervene in this regard and stop the B.Ed. students from teaching Elementary classes i.e classes from 1 to 8 covering the children of 6 to 14 years of age.

It is a pity that after about 60 years of independence we've not even been able to define what the elementary eduction is! An immediate action is needed and B.Ed. must not be allowed to teach classes I to VIII.

I fully support the petition. It's a pity that even for such an obvious point we have to go for a 'Petition'. Isn't it more tragic than any of the Shakespearean tragedies? I congratulate Dr Jitendra Sharma for raising this issue.

The definition of Elementary Education seems to be well accepted in educational writings in India as education from class 1 to 8, and of children from age 6 years to 14 years. The issues seems to be that the teachers who are trained to teach higher clases

Elementry education is well defined. It is because of wast demand for elementary school teachers, teachers trained for secondary classes are appointed for teaching elementary classes. This is true that they dont have expertise for teaching primary classes

it is very imporatnt that elementary education should be given in hands of respectively qualified teachers as these are the forming years of a child. teachers untrained for the purpose are hampering the basic foundation of education of a child.

Pl compare the levels of English required for the subjects like History, Literature and then compare it with the level of English required as 'English Language'. It is absurd!
