District 214 Anti-Book Ban sign now

I do not believe that the following novels should be banned from District 214 reading lists.

The Things They Carried, Tim OBrian

Slaughterhouse-Five, by Kurt Vonnegut

The Awakening, by Kate Chopin

Beloved, by Tony Morrison

The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky

Freakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner

The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World, by Michael Pollan

These books are extremely helpful in teaching the other side of the story. The have many different viewpoints than most regular, more widely accepted books. These books are needed in our schools to prepare high school students for real life, where there is homosexuality, drugs, violence and radical beliefs. Students should be able to be exposed to these topics so they are more prepared for life after high school.

I might lend some credibility to Pinney's claims had she actually...you know...read the books, but until she does, her complaints are void in my eyes.

Banning these books would be a great disservice to teens in District 214. First of all, the issues presented in these books provide invaluable material for intelligent discussion and debate among students. The books listed all require critical thinking an

How can you possibly seek to ban these books? These are wonderful works of prominent literature that identify the quintissential theories of modern writing! In any case, banning books is a wonderful way to ensure that these particular books will be read o

It is through my education that i have become frustrated with the banning of books. It's an escuse for people afraid of the power of literature. Only a truely ingnorant person could look past the powerful message and importance of literary works to try an

Under no circumstances should you be allowed to critize or analize books in which u haven't read, the fact profanity is present in these books gives u no right to ban them unless u can qualify that the terms in which the circumstances are during the book
