Clemency for Robert Campbell Petition sign now

To President George W. Bush and Pardon Attorney Roger C. Adams

Dear Mr. President and Mr. Adams:

We, the undersigned, ask that clemency be granted to Robert Campbell. Mr. Campbell is serving a 24 year sentence at FMC Lexington, KY. In 1996, he was charged with Drug Conspiracy charges, he was allowed to be released on an unsecured bond for two years until sentencing in 1998. It took THREE Federal trials to convict this man. The first two trials resulted in hung juries, the third trial initially had a deadlocked jury but statements vouching for the state witnesses made by the prosecutor, may have swayed the jury to convict. Does it really take three trials to convict a guilty man? Robert was under surveillance from February 1995 until August 1996 and not one single criminal act or behavior was found during that entire time. No evidence of any crime being committed was ever found during a year and a half of surveillance, but because other co-defendants in the case testified against him to better their own positions, he was given the most years out of everyone involved. He professed his innocence throughout the entire ordeal, in fact, he is the only one who went to trial, every other person in the conspiracy pled guilty and accepted lower sentences in return for incriminating testimony against Robert. The sentencing guidelines that the judge struggled with to impose theis sentence are no longer mandatory as of the January 2005 Supreme Court Booker decision. Those guidelines are a prime reason why the majority of Federal immates are low-level,non-violent drug offenders serving very long sentences, who are serving more years than most repeat violent offenders. Mr. Campbell has no prior criminal history, he has received a Real Estate Diploma and completed parenting classes while he has been incarcerated as well as demonstrated model behavior. Please grant clemency to Robert Campbell, an excellent example of the injustice in sentencing and allow him a second chance to have a productive and positive life as a free citizen.
