Call Off The Australian Tour Bring Back Our Boys sign now

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)
The Sponsors of the Team
The Sponsors of the Series

We, the undersigned are keen followers of the game of cricket and believe that it should be played with honesty, integrity and absolute sportsmanship. Unfortunately, the events over the past few days in Australia have brought shame and disrepute to the fair name of this gentlemans sport. Events that are an outcome of dishonesty, lack of integrity and a shameless display of unsportsmanlike behaviour on the part of the Australian team, the so-called No.1 team in the world, and the two umpires, Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson, leading lights of the ICC panel of umpires.

Not only has the Indian team been short-changed with some of the worst umpiring decisions in the history of the game, one member, Harbhajan Singh has specifically been made the target of a vilification campaign by the Australian team, as payback for his success against the Australian captain, Ricky Ponting as well as the famed Australian bowling attack. A charge of racial misconduct concocted by the Australian team more as an afterthought, and based on a pack of lies has resulted in a 3-match ban for Harbhajan.

The Indian team was made to lose a match where they had the Aussies on the backfoot, with the help of some very biased umpiring by Bucknor and Benson. Harbhajan has been dealt with very effectively by Ponting & Co., with some handy help from a very cooperative Mike Procter and the ICC.

The antics of the Australian team, the two umpires and the ICC are not only malicious, vengeful and unscrupulous, their actions also hold grave threat to the spirit of the game as it should be played, and to the very future of the game. If these dangerous elements are not removed from the game of cricket, there is really no point in believing in the concepts of equality, truth, fair play and justice for all.

1. Should the BCCI be even considering the option of continuing with the tour?
2. Should the BCCI be playing petty politics with the morale of the team?
3. Should the BCCI put off the decision till tomorrow, waiting for tempers to cool off?
4. Must we stop being angry about this humiliation?
5. Must we again put this behind us and proceed with the tour with tails firmly tucked behind as we usually do?
6. Is the loss of Guarantee Money worth more than loss of national honour and dignity?
7. When will the BCCI put a stop to repeated ICC snubs?
8. If cricket is money, and money talks, when will the BCCI, the richest cricket board in the world tell the world that it should be doing all the talking?
9. When will the BCCI say, Enough is enough?
10. Is Mr. Sharad Pawar willing to take another insult from the Australians after that infamous pushover incident at the awards function last year?
11. Finally, to the Australian team, was this win really worth it?

We, the undersigned, request the BCCI to withdraw from the current series in Australia and bring back our boys immediately. We, the true followers of the game of cricket in India and across the world believe that we have a responsibility towards ensuring that cricket remains a gentlemans sport. Please let it not be reduced to a blood sport that accepts boorish and corrupt behaviour for the sake of a win.

To the sponsors of the team and the series, we as consumers of your products and services, request you to please support this Petition. We acknowledge and appreciate the support you have always provided to the game of cricket in India, and hope you will continue to do so keeping alive the concepts of fair play and dignity in sport.

Sundar Mahadevan
Sportsmanship must win.
