Boycott Mexico until the charges against Dog, Leland, and Tim Chapman are dropped sign now

The American justice system is supposed to be the greatest justice system in the world. It is something that every American citizen is supposed to be proud of and believe in. However, recently, the American justice system has failed three of its own citizens. Three courageous Americans were abandoned by their government, and many of us have lost faith in the American justice system as a result.

In 2003, a predator named Andrew Luster was finally arrested and charged with eighty-eight counts of rape. The American legal system has finally worked, thousands of us across the country thought. A menace was taken off the streets; but the American justice system couldnt keep him for long: Luster jumped his $1 million bail. He immediately appeared on the FBIs Ten Most Wanted List. Months passed, and there was no sign of Andrew Luster from any law enforcement agency. Duane Chapman appeared on Live and Direct with Rita Cosby on MSNBC, and on live television, he promised to find Andrew Luster and bring him back to justice.

On June 18, 2003, Dog came through with his promise. Along with Leland Chapman, his son, and Tim Chapman, his brother, Dog arrested Andrew Luster in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Hours after finding Luster, the three were arrested and imprisoned in Mexico, and charged with unlawful deprivation of liberty and illegal seizure. After spending seven days in jail in Mexico, the three were only freed after they posted their own bail.

The Chapmans returned to the United States, only to learn that the Mexican authorities had issued warrants for their arrests. The three men who brought a fugitive back to America became fugitives themselves. They were never paid the reward that the F.B.I. had publicized for the capture of Luster; the only thing they got were warrants for their arrests and monetary losses.

For years, the capture of Andrew Luster faded into memory, until the morning of September 14, 2006. That morning, Duane, Leland, and Tim Chapman were arrested by US Marshals. The three spent the night in the federal penitentiary before they were allowed to post their $500,000 bail the next afternoon. The three are currently required to wear ankle monitors while they wait for the extradition hearing. If they are extradited to Mexico, they face up to four years in prison.

As Americans, we refuse to let that happen. We will not stand idly by and let these courageous men go to prison for doing the right thing. Andrew Luster didnt deserve liberty. The night he was found in Mexico, the police found more date rape drugs and video equipment in his hotel room. The only thing that Luster deserved was punishment for his heinous crimes (a 124-year sentence) and the Chapmans were the only ones who made that possible.

Mexicos economy is largely dependent on tourism, and the United States is one of its largest contributors. Our message is simple: no one who has signed this petition will be entering Mexico while these charges stand. We will not cross the border, buy Mexican goods, or go on vacation or Spring Break to Mexico while these charges stand. If the Chapmans are extradited, Mexico will not receive any money from the undersigned. On average, each tourist spends $1,000 on vacation in Mexico. For every signature that is on this petition, there is $1,000 that will not be contributing to the Mexican economy.

The Chapmans should not be extradited to Mexico. It is an injustice that the American government is even considering sending these three to prison. When did the United States start imprisoning people for doing the right and just thing? The Chapman family has the support of millions across the world. Do the right thing, and put an end to this injustice. Dont let the United States receive the reputation of imprisoning its citizens for doing the right thing. The Chapmans, and all Americans, deserve better.
