Another reason to boycott Target sign now

WE, the undersigned do hereby boycott doing business with Target, Corp until such time as they revise their return policy and remember who keeps them in business -the customer.

The current Target return policy reads:

A receipt dated within 90 days is required for all returns& exchanges.

All returns and exchanges must be new, unused, and contain all original packaging and accessories. Some items cannot be returned if opened, including music, movies, video games, software, & collectibles. Some items are subject to a 15\%restocking fee, including camcorders, digital cameras, portable DVD, and portable electronics. Other restrictions may apply.

Holiday and seasonal merchandise on clearance at time of return will be refunded at the current clearance price. Any purchase made by check may be refunded as a merchandise voucher.

All other returns or exchanges-including those without receipt-will be offered manufacturers warranty & repair assistance at 1-800-303-0308.

Nearly every line of this return policy is consumer unfriendly to some customer in some instance. Examples, in order, as follows:

1. The issue of a receipt. In some cases, it is not the desire of the gift receiver to ask the gift giver for the receipts. Perhaps said receiver doesnt want the giver to know they are returning or exchanging the gift.

2. Suzie Consumer starts shopping for next Christmas at New Years Day sales. Her gifts will not be accepted for return come next December, as they are older then 90 days.
3. Ms. Consumer buys a sweater, washes it according to care instructions and it fades/shrinks. Her purchase will not be returned as it its not new, unused
4. There is no reason that a restocking fee should be applied to any purchase unless it is a special order item. Does it cost 15\% of the purchase price to get some guy in electronics to stick a camcorder back in the case? It is simply to make the returns process more difficult, in the hopes of deterring someones return of product.
5. other restrictions may apply This serves only to cover them in case there is any situation the braniacs that thought up this lovely policy forgot something. An umbrella statement so that they dont have to return anything ever.
6. Holiday and seasonal merchandise, when returned with a receipt should be refunded/exchanged for the same amount it was purchased for. Tough luck for you Target, this one is a no brainer.
7. It is discriminatory to check writers to only provide store credit for check payments. If the check is older then 7 days, they should be able to get cash back.

8. So that Target can assume NO responsibility for the products that it sells, it refers any product that is defective to the manufacturer. Making Targets job easier, and the consumers job harder.
There is NO reason why a company the size of Target should have a policy such as this. The only benefit to them is to deter store thefthowever, shoplifting only accounts for 1-5\% of returns. They are thereby treating the other 99-95\% of their customer as no more then common thieves.

Standard retail return policies are that with receipt, any and all purchases can be returned for cash or credit. Any returns without receipt are given store credit, and the item amount credited is the last sale price of the item. There is no reason to put a time limit on returns, or to disallow store credit to items returned without receipt. There are other, comparable companies that have even more flexible returns policies then thiseven offering cash back for items returned without receipt up to a certain dollar amount. Now THATS customer service!

So, my question to Target stores is this: Are you going to be a company that is Customer Focused or a company that is only interested in deterring shoplifters at all costs?

Target wouldn't let me return an item from my baby registry because the registry expired two days before I tried to return the item. I have spent a small fortune in Target, but NEVER again!
