Petition the Governor General of Canada to Demand a Royal Commission into the Robocalling Scandal sign now

The Robocalling Scandal has been at the forefront of our news for weeks now and still we are no closer to answering the fundamental questions on the minds of the voting public:

Who was responsible?

What consequences will they face?

When will they be charged with crimes under the election act?

When will by-elections be called to ensure that people have honest and representative government?

The Conservative government has gone into full denial mode. Instead of sharing the outrage of the public, they are instead hiding behind parliamentary procedure and the power of their majority to deny, deflect and avoid investigation. They have gone so far as to attempt to blame Elections Canada, the very body responsible for ensuring abuses such as these don’t occur.

There is, however, a little used check and balance in our system. The Governor General of Canada can order a Royal Commission. The roll of Governor General is viewed as a largely ceremonial role but it may prove to be the last hope we have of ensuring that electoral fraud does not go unchecked.

We need to urge our Governor General, His Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, to prove he is worthy of his title and to defend our Canadian democracy against those who would subvert it.

We can’t force the Conservatives to start and investigation against themselves, but our
Governor General can.

There have been calls and petitions for the Governor General to dissolve parliament. This is extremely unlikely to occur. A Royal Commission into the Robocalling Scandal is a much more practical approach.

Join me in petitioning the Governor General to defend the integrity of Canadian
Democracy. To demand a Royal Commission into the Robocalling Scandal and ensure that electoral fraud cannot go unpunished.
